Project SCREEN: Starting Your Preschool Off on the Right foot!

Posted on: Thu, 12/11/2008 - 16:04| By: GinaBina

Project S.C.R.E.E.N. (Screening Children and Responding to Early Educational Needs) is a service provided by Peoria Public Schools to detect preschool children between the ages of three and five who are at risk for learning problems. Early identification of developmental lags can help you plan for your child's success upon entering school.

The Peoria Public Schools' staff and trained volunteers will evaluate preschoolers in five developmental areas:
1. Personal-Social
2. Adaptive
3. Fine and Gross Motor
4. Communication
5. Cognitive

Children experiencing difficulty will be referred for further evaluation or be provided with materials to develop problem areas.

There is no charge for the screening which is only available to residents of District 150. You may make an appointment by calling Project SCREEN at 672-6720.

Your Peoria Public Schools and your community offer many preschool programs free of charge. Early childhood classes, speech therapy, and resource library programs are just a few of the available services.

The information above is found in Project SCREEN's brochure. If you are not a District 150 resident, your own school district may offer similar programs as well as Easter Seals.
