Where: Caterpillar Performing Arts Center at Five Points Washington
When: Friday, August 27, 2010, 7:30 PM
What: “Songs From the Heart”
Who: Maestro David Commanday and the Heartland Festival Orchestra with soprano Barbara Padilla. As a special tribute to Dan Fogelberg, soprano Barbara Padilla will perform his well-known song, “Longer” with the HFO. The orchestra offers this tribute to Fogelberg as part of the late August Peoria Memorial Dedication weekend for the famed singer/songwriter. Fogelberg, a Peoria native, died in December 2007 after battling prostate cancer. Ms. Padilla, a cancer survivor herself, captured the hearts of millions nationwide last summer as first runner-up of the “America’s Got Talent” competition. Barbara enchanted our HFO concertgoers last January with her stunning voice and irresistible charm.
In addition to “Longer”, Barbara Padilla will sing favorite arias of Mozart, Donizetti, and Puccini. The orchestra will perform Mozart’s overture to The Marriage of Figaro,” and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4, The “Italian”.
Charity Partner: “Songs from the Heart” will benefit Common Place, a social service agency on Peoria’s South Side which helps people overcome poverty and injustice through education. Their Youth Programs offer academic assistance, life skills, and cultural enrichment to build self esteem and success in school. Common Place literacy programs help adults learn reading, writing, and math skills and acquire self-esteem and self-confidence needed to obtain employment. “At Common Place, our motto is “Love in Action,”, said Connie Voss, Executive Director of Common Place, “and we are proud and honored to be featured at the Heartland Festival Orchestra’s “Songs from the Heart” concert.”
