Austine: Polage - Paintings in Polarized Light
Lakeview Museum
1125 W Lake Ave, Peoria
309-686-3382
Polage is an art form invented by Austine Wood-Comarow more than 40 years ago. This colorful artwork is made with absolutely no pigment of any kind. Just as a prism breaks white light into a brilliant rainbow, Austine's materials - cellulose and polarizing filter - create her palette of pure light colors. Polage is painting with light, but the method of making these works of art is more like sculpture.

Peoria Bach Festival
The Peoria Bach Festival 2009 will feature another week of magnificent and beautiful music. Now in its seventh season, this year's festival will venture into some new realms by exploring "Jazz With Bach" with jazz pianist Ed Kaizer and friends (Bach at Noon Concert on Monday, June 1 at 12:05 p.m.) and the exploring the music of Bach's colleague and friend Georg Philipp Telemann (Chamber Concert on Thursday, June 4 at 5:30 p.m.).
Mr. Bach will once again make an appearance and explain to children the science behind music ("Hey Kids! Meet Mr. Bach" on Wednesday, June 3 at 4:00 p.m.). As a part of this program, musicians from the Peoria Bach Festival Orchestra will explain and demonstrate their instruments and Mr. Bach will explain how the pipe organ works. With their parents' permission, children will be allowed to crawl into Trinity's mighty Schlicker pipe organ.
Of course, we will have our annual Coffee Concert on Friday, June 5 at 7:30 p.m. and the 2009 Festival Concert the following evening featuring the Peoria Bach Festival Choir and Orchestra in a performance of the spectacular Magnificat in D Major.
A complete schedule and details regarding this year's events can be found by clicking here or following the "Schedule" link below. Be sure to also check out our photo gallery of past festivals or view the slide show of the 2008 "Hey Kids! Meet Mr. Bach" program entitled "Bach, the Musical Magician" featuring ventriloquist and magician, Allan Adcock
We have also added streaming audio of past concerts. We hope you enjoy them, but a live performance is much better, especially in an acoustic like Trinity's. So please join us between June 1-7 as Peoria once again plays Bach!
See you at the concerts!!!

An Exhibition to Remember!
There can be no doubt of the overwhelming importance of memory in our individual lives. We spend much of our waking lives remembering. Our ability to perform the simplest tasks relies on remembering what to do and how to do it. Our very sense of who we are rests largely in remembering where we've been, whom we've known, what we've done, and how we've felt. Memory, a major new exhibition at Lakeview Museum of Arts and Sciences, opens to the public June 20, 2009. This traveling exhibition of over forty exhibits and demonstrations was created by the internationally acclaimed Exploratorium in San Francisco, and made possible by the National Science Foundation and the MetLife Foundation, and supported locally by Methodist Medical Center of Illinois, PSA Dewberry, and the Illinois Arts Council. The exhibition, Memory, is reflective of both personal experience and new breakthroughs in cognitive science. It explores these ideas and the equally important notion that memory is constantly changing and reshaping the way we understand our world. It reflects both personal experience and new breakthroughs in cognitive science.
In the exhibition, you can play Hoop Nightmares, a wacky basketball game that temporarily alters your body's memory of how to throw a ball. In Jukebox Memories, you can find out which top tunes of the past forty years stir your memories. Find out why your memory can hold on to thousands of facts, words, pictures, and even complicated arguments and explanations, yet stumble over a simple name or phone number. Learn why legal experts have gotten more skeptical about eyewitness testimony, and why many psychologists question "recovered" memories. By experiencing the powers and limitations of your own memory within the exhibition, your can begin to understand what memory is and how it works.
