Ideas from the PAS Treasure Hunt

Posted on: Wed, 08/11/2010 - 15:03| By: GinaBina

Although my kids are too young to officially enter, I like the ideas of places to visit for the Peoria Academy of Science Treasure Hunt , regardless of age. There are the traditional Peoria attractions listed, but there are several that I never knew were available for visits. Bravo to the Peoria Academy of Science for sponsoring this! Below are their suggested treasure hunt sites:

Linden Hill Dairy Farm
Jake Wolf Fish Hatchery
Wheels O Time Museum
Luthy Botanical Garden
Lakeview Museum
Peoria Air National Guard
US Coast Guard
WTVP
Wildlife Prairie State Park
Rock Island State Train Depot
Forest Park Nature Center
Fondulac Farm Park
Dickson Mounds Museum
Peoria Humane Society
Peoria Zoo

Our writing workshop focuses on paragraph writing, and writing for a purpose.

Our study skills workshop helps students organize their notes, and focuses on content reading.

The workshops are 6 weeks, and each session is 75 minutes long. Each workshop is capped at 4 students to ensure each student's needs are met.

Young Minds

As a homeschooling mom, I have found it difficult to find a group that caters to the young homeschooler. I know that there are large support groups and co-ops. But, I am interested in more of an intimate group where families get together regularly.

Since I was not able to find this group, I decided to create one. Young Minds of Peoria is small group for families with students in grades K-2. The kids will create, explore, and connect doing things that they enjoy.

A Unique School In Peoria

Imagine sending your kids to a school that treats its students with the same love and care that you would your own kids. Where a fourth-grader can be seen reading a story to a pre-schooler and a Kindergartner is working on an art project that explores the technique of Picasso and Jackson Pollock. Where each child learns at his or her own pace, expanding on their strength and improving on their weaknesses. In that very same building, and within the school hours, your child can be doing yoga, taking piano lessons, learning French or serving food to the needy at the local Salvation Army.
