Step-parenting Adolescents

Adolescents  are abnormal by definition.  I firmly believe that God created this stage of development so that when the time comes, parents have the ability to “launch” their offspring into adulthood.  Remember how hard it was to drop your 3-year-old off at pre-school?  How you tiptoed back to the window to make sure she quit crying after you left?  I’m not saying there is no angst in helping your little darling permanently change addresses when the time comes, but having the turmoil of adolescence replaces the trauma with--at the very least—a bit more ambivalence.

Why Our Family Became Peoria Zoo Members

The main reason we became Peoria Zoo members is because of the baby tigers. The baby tigers are small and cute now, and we want to watch them grow up.  That enclosure will not hold all those tigers indefinitely.  The baby tigers will be there one to two years, before they are moved to another zoo. So, we want to enjoy them now.  An interesting fact a zoo staff member told me was that these four baby tigers are 4 of the 16 tigers born worldwide in captivity.

Newcomers' Club of Greater Peoria Monthly Luncheon

The Newcomers’ Club of Greater Peoria will hold its monthly luncheon on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at Alexander’s Steakhouse, 100 Alexander Street, Peoria IL.
 
Samantha Kinsey, Volunteer Specialist with GoodGuides will be speaking about the various programs offered by Goodwill Industries. 
 
This event is open to the public and the Newcomers’ Club is open to all women who have lived in the Tri-County area for less than five years or have had a recent lifestyle change.
